“Journey in the world of technology” 2023 has come to a close

This summer’s trip to the world of technology is over!

From July 17 to July 21, 20 children and young people of Ogre region got to know the diversity of technology every day in the creative workshops organized by the association “Development and Innovation Training Center”.

The skills of constructing, programming and controlling LEGO robots were learned in the workshop “Robot Masters”. The children not only built complex robots, but also learned how to make the robots perform various tasks and how to control the execution of the tasks with the help of sensors. There were also robot sumo fights!

In the “Young Engineers” workshop, various aircraft were created – airplanes, helicopters and parachutes. Together the children studied how their flight differs if the values of various parameters change, such as the materials used, wing length, mass, etc.

The children went to the BELMONT AERO company to learn how airplanes are built by professionals. During the tour, the children got to know the process, starting with how parts are cut from metal, how components are welded, and ending with aircraft riveting, painting, drying and the final result.

While hiking in the Blue Mountains, the children themselves had the opportunity to practically test their knowledge and make an aircraft with which to land an egg on the Earth so that it does not break. During the hike, the children also learned how to navigate using a map and compass, finding checkpoints and performing technology-related tasks in them, such as constructing a Da Vinci bridge.

In the “Robot Stories” workshop, teams of children created episodes of animated films with the StopMotionStudio app. The main characters were created from LEGO constructor parts. The recently held Song and Dance Festival resulted in episodes about both dancing computers and robots singing in a choir.

The children and young people participated in the DigiDiegu workshop with genuine interest. Each participant was able to see how a single line drawing made by themselves turns into a beautiful embroidery on a bag.

The journey into the world of technology has come to an end, introducing parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters to what has been done, demonstrating LEGO robots in action!

Thank you to the workshop leaders – Nora Meire, Ērika Graudiņa, Ada Paula Vītoliņa, Maija Ozola, Inguna Ojera and assistant Eduard Kupčas.

See you on the next journey!
