The camp “Daugavas stories 2023” is here

Friends! See you by Daugava!

There are only 2 days left until the start of the fifth camp “Daugava stories”!
On Sunday, July 30, 33 children, several teachers and volunteers from Greece, Croatia, Italy, Latvia, Spain, Switzerland and Germany will gather in Ogre.

A camp organized by the Development and Innovation Training Center will be held in the cozy premises of the Ogre Technical School until August 4, the participants of which are Latvian children living outside of Latvia. This year, 7 children from Rēzekne district will be joining them. On the banks of Daugava, this is already the fifth camp organized by the association in cooperation with diaspora Latvian associations. It has its own core of educators and loyal fans who are waiting to meet their friends.

This time at the camp, we will not only familiarize ourselves with the rich range of Ogre technical school programs and opportunities, but also try our hand at creating 3D designs and various leather and textile accessories, learn programming skills in LEGO robotics classes and, of course, improve our knowledge of the Latvian language by learning Latvian traditions and folklore.

In Ogre, it is planned to get acquainted with the museum and the central library building, walk through the Blue Mountains and the Giant’s Paths and – see Riga! Not only from the Blue Mountains observation tower, but also with your own eyes. We will go by train to the capital, where we will get to know the Palace of Light, in Old Riga we will explore places important to the history of Latvia and we will visit the exhibition “Wear Latvia. Latvian folk costumes in the world” about Latvian national costumes and their stories outside of Latvia.

There will also be highly anticipated evening events, competitions, quizzes, sports and a night track.

On Friday evening, we will invite parents and friends to the closing event to show off what we have done together and celebrate a week full of friendship and newly learned skills.

The event is financially supported by the Society Integration Fund from Latvian state budget funds allocated by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia. The camp is supported by the municipality of Rēzekne region, offering participation in the camp as a prize to the best participants of the competition “My Latvia”. Participation in this camp will be a reward for the work invested in social and creative activities, as well as academic achievements. “Fazer Latvija” has also provided sweet prizes for the camp, but we will get to know the “Milžu taka” with the support of SIA “MGH”.

Collaboration partners: ALISI – the Italian and Italian Swiss Latvian society, the group of Latvian friends in Athens, the Spanish society “LeLat”, the Latvian cultural society “Saime” in Stuttgart.
